What speeds up ageing
1. Too much sugar. Sugar drives glycation: it binds to collagen and elastin and forms advanced glycation end products (AGEs). The fibres become stiff and brittle. Wrinkles appear sooner, skin loses its firmness, and body-wide inflammation goes up.

2. Not enough fibre. Fibre is the main food for the good bacteria in your gut. Without it, the balance of your microbiome shifts and you make fewer short-chain fatty acids. These help keep the gut lining healthy and inflammation in check. The result: more body-wide inflammation and oxidative stress.

3. No strength training. From 30–35, without resistance training we lose around 3–8% of muscle mass per decade. That lowers your resting metabolism, worsens insulin sensitivity, weakens bones and speeds up ageing overall.

4. Ultra-processed food. It contains trans fats, emulsifiers, artificial additives and lots of omega-6, all linked to chronic low-grade inflammation. That inflammation speeds up ageing at the cellular level.

5. Lots of fried and chargrilled food. High-heat cooking creates AGEs and heterocyclic amines. They build up in the body, stiffen proteins and affect blood vessels, adding to ageing at the molecular level.

6. Too few antioxidants from food. Without enough antioxidants, damage to DNA, mitochondria, cell membranes and proteins builds up. This speeds up ageing and inflammation.

7. Not enough protein. Too few amino acids means less muscle protein, collagen and enzymes. After 35 this speeds up muscle loss, slows tissue repair and can affect immunity and hormonal balance.
